Bodegas Estefanía Tilenus Godello 2016
The Estefanía winery was started in 1999 by the Frías family in El Bierzo in northwestern Spain. The property is a spectacular natural biosphere, with every type of bird, as well as rabbits and wild boar roaming freely. Each vine is tended individually by the vineyard manager, with care and love.
The winemaker Raúl Pérez, who is from Bierzo, cut his teeth on Tilenus. Since then he has become renown as one of the finest winemakers in Spain. But Bodegas Estefanía remains one of his favorite projects; he returns every year to blend the wine from each of the vineyards that he has know since he was a young man.
The climate in Beirzo is dominated by the Atlantic Ocean, just across the Cantabrian Mountains to the north, as well as plenty of precipitation, moist air, and abundant sunshine that comes in the spring and summer from up from the plains of Castilla to the south, making this an ideal climate for growing vines. The harsh cold, winter is also very good for killing off the natural bugs, and keeping the vines healthy. Vineyards are certified organic. Soils are predominantly clay, with good mineral content and drainage.
Golden color, this Godello is fresh with salty mineral and citrus notes, medium plus body and a long finish. Drink lightly chilled but not ice cold. Pairs beautifully with seafood, especially heartier options like lobster, scallops, or crab
Tincan Sassy Sauvignon 2017
Tincan is named for winemaker Nick Candy and his wife Laura Tinelly. They have a small vineyard in Nelson on the South Island of New Zealand making organic, natural, vegan wines.
Approximately 30% is neutral barrel-fermented with full juice solids, 30% is fermented 28 days on skins, 30% is carbonic fermented and pressed to amphora, and 8% is barrel-fermented Chardonnay with 4% Gewurztraminer.
Intense, with aromas of gooseberries, quince, green beans and citrus fruits. Dry and medium-bodied, the palate is a fusion of gooseberries, citrus fruit, with notes of quince, herbs and toasted hazelnuts. No oak. Instead, you’ll find light phenolic textures with fresh acidity. An animated wine with a lasting finish.
Delinquente Pretty Boy Rosé 2018
Con-Greg Grigorou is the winemaker behind Delinquente Wine Co. He works with Southern Italian grape varieties organically grown in the Riverland in South Australia. The climate in the Riverland is very similar to Southern Italy, characterized by low rainfall and long balmy summer days which produce grapes with naturally lower sugar (and therefore alcohol levels) while maintaining high natural acidity.
The Pretty Boy rosé is made from Nero d’avola. It’s a delicious mix of sweet strawberries and crisp acidity, fun and dangerously drinkable.
